The Department of International Studies and History conducted a session on the Career Opportunities in the subjects of History, Economics and Political Science for the Final Year BA HEP students on the 27th of June 2019 in the Assembly Hall of Block II. Dr. Vineeth Thomas introduced the speakers of the day.
Dr. Vagishwari S.P, Head of the Department threw light upon the Career Opportunities in the subject of History. Ma'am stressed upon the 4 aspects of Thinking, Communication, Knowledge of the World and Adaptability to be the major components of any Candidate. The career chosen could be either Academic with Specialisations (like Education, Research etc) and Non Academic being generic (like Media, Print, Advertisement, Theatre and Cinema).
Followed by this was an orientation by Dr. Joshy KJ, Head of the Department of Economics. Sir spoke about few abilities that any person should possess for any kind of work, being focus and right attitude. He even mentioned about moduling himself/herself for the market (organization). He explained to us about the avenues in various sectors like the Corporate Sector, Academics and Research, NGO's and International Organizations and lastly in Public Policy which all needed 6 steps from fixing the right career choice to that of a proper follow up.
The final speaker for the day was Dr. Vineeth Thomas, Assistant Professor of the Department of International Studies and History who discussed about the opportunities in the subject of Political Science. He enlightened us upon why should we pursue a career in Political Science? and the necessary skills associated with it. He divided the subject's career opportunities into five categories namely-Academics, Political Journalist, Political Analyst, Bureaucrats and Think Tanks. The programme concluded with an insightful question and answer session by the students.
